The 2000 NBA draft redone

By DeeGee

I plan on redoing every draft class since 2000 to the present into what could have happened. Though the 2000 draft is considered by many as one of the worst drafts in the history of the NBA here is what it could have looked like.

BEECEE, or EMMDUB, if you think I am wrong let me know.

Draft Pick---------------------------My Pick

1. Kenyon Martin-------------------Kenyon Martin, Nets>> At the time New Jersey needed a big guy with any kind of skill. They had Evan Eschmeyer, or Jim McIlvane. Though some people might have taken other players they did have a few descent smaller players in Kerry Kittles, Marbury, and Stephen Jackson.

2. Stromile Swift-------------------Michael Redd, Grizzlies>> Maybe the Grizzlies would have won a few more games with Redd. It would have been great to see him paired with Mike Bibby. Interesting to see that Redd slipped all the way to the middle of the second round in this weak draft.

3. Darius Miles--------------------Mike Miller, Clippers>>The Clippers had some okay talent, but having a good shooter like Mike Miller would have been great with Odom, and Maggette.

4. Marcus Fizer-------------------Hedo Turkoglu, Bulls>>I might put Jamal Crawford here, but the Bulls could get him anyway with a later pick. The Bulls could have been nice with Elton Brand, Brad Miller, Ron Artest, Hedo Turkoglu, and Fred Hoiberg.

5.Mike Miller---------------------Jamaal Magloire, Magic>> One of three current All-Star players from this list, the Magic needed a big man. They had Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady, the best available big man is Jamaal Magloire.

6.DerMarr Johnson--------------Jamal Crawford, Hawks>>The Hawks had Dikembe, Jason Terry and a number of okay role players. Jamal Crawford could have been a good pick here or trade to the Bulls who really wanted him.

7. Chris Mihm-------------------Morris Peterson, Bulls>> Mo' Pete would have been great with the bulls, they could have been 9 excellent players deep if they had selected correctly.

8. Jamal Crawford--------------Quenton Richardson, Cavaliers>>The Cavaliers needed help anywhere. They had Zydrunas and Andre Miller, and some other okay players like Clarence Weatherspoon, Lamond Murray, J.R Reid and Wesly Person but that was about it.

9.Joel Przybilla----------------Darius Miles, Rockets>> As much as I like Priz, the Rockets had a great team with Olajuwon, Francis, and Mobley. Darius Miles could have been pretty good here under Rudy T and this high scoring group.

10.Keyon Dooling-------------Marko Jaric, Magic>> Marko and Keyon score the same amount, but Marko has way more assists. With Grant Hill, McGrady, and Magloire they would need someone to get them the ball.

11.Jerome Moiso-------------Joel Przybilla, Boston Celtics>> The Celtics had Kenny Anderson, Paul Pierce, and Antoine Walker. Joel could have been a defensive and rebounding force for them on the inside.

12.Etan Thomas-------------Desmond Mason, Dallas Mavericks>> The Mavericks had Steve Nash, Dirk, Michael Finley and some great role players. My choice would have been the next good available player on the board and that would be Desmond Mason

13.Courtney Alexander------Chris Mihm, Clippers>> The Clippers just needed some more size. They had Olowokandi and Odom, but after that not much. Chris Mihm would have been a great sixth man here.

14.Mateen Cleaves----------Speedy Claxton, Pistons>> 9 points, 4 assists and 1.7 steals would be great to have coming off the bench for the Pistons back then. They had Stackhouse, Chucky Atkins, Ceballos, and Ben Wallace. Speedy might have really helped in this pick. More than Eric Montross helped them.

15.Jason Collier--------------Stromile Swift, Milwaukee Bucks>> The Bucks had Same Cassell, Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Rafer Alston, and Glen Robinson, but no big guy. The choice came down to Stromile Swift and Primoz Brezec, and Stromiles numbers were just a bit better, though I may change this choice later.

16.Hedo Turkoglu------------Keyon Dooling, Kings>> The Kings had Webber, Doug Christie, Stojakovic, Divac and Jason Williams. They needed a point guard other than Jason Williams. Keyon could have battled for a starting spot here and maybe backed up Bibby when he came later.

17.Desmond Mason----------Ime Udoka, Supersonics>>Ask any Blazer fan or Spurs fan and they will tell you this guy can flat out play. He went undrafted in 2000 and that was a mistake. He plays superb defense and shoots close to 40% from the three. Even now, he will defensively play the best player on the other team in the fourth quarter instead of Bruce Bowen.

18.Quentin Richardson--------Eduardo Najera, Clippers>>This team lacked defense and he would have been a great stopper for them

19.Jamaal Magloire-----------DeShawn Stevenson, Hornets>> The hornets could have used this player. With Baron Davis, Mashburn, PJ Brown, Elden Campbell, and a sober Derrick Coleman, they could have been pretty good.

20.Speedy Claxton-----------Eddie House, 76ers>> The sixers needed anybody else coming off the bench who could shoot and Eddie has no hesitation shooting the ball. Maybe they wouldn't have gone to Pepe Sanchez coming off the bench.

21.Morris Peterson-----------Courtney Alexander, Raptors>> What a mystery this guy was. He was the leading scorer in college while at Fresno State and once averaged 17 points a game in the NBA, but he only played from 2000-2003. Then he hung them up. He tried to come back a few years later but never made it. Maybe if he was on the raptors things would have changed.

22.Donnel Harvy-------------Etan Thomas, Knicks>> The Knicks had Larry Johnson, Sprewell, Allan Houston, Camby, Glen Rice, Kurt Thomas, Chris Childs, and Charlie Ward. Glen Rice and Larry Johnson were getting old, they needed another big guy to help out Camby and Thomas is a decent back up big guy.

23.Deshawn Stevenson-------Primoz Brezec, Jazz>> Stockton to Malone and that was about it. But they did have John Starks and Bryon Russell. Atleast Primoz could have split time with Greg Ostertag.

24.Dalibar Bagaric------------Mark Madsen, Pacers>>The mad dog could have brought some toughness to the Pacers and played some valuable minutes. With Jermaine O'neal, Al Harrington, Reggie Miller, Jeff Foster, Derrick McKey, and Croshere he might not have saw much time, but he could definitley give 6 fouls to Shaq.

25.Jake Tsakalidis-----------Malik Allen, Suns>> Another person who did not get drafted this year, Allen would have been a great pickup. Gugliotta, Rex Chapman and Cliff Robinson were getting old. They had Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Mario Ellie, Anfernee Hardaway, and Tony Delk.

26.Mamadou N'Diaye------- Jerome Moiso, Nuggets>> Jerome has played with the championship team in Spain for many years and is still a decent player. He played a while in the NBA but was lurred away for a big contract in Spain.

27.Primoz Brezec-----------Jason Hart, Pacers>> It would be hard to put Hart here because he would see zero playing time and as the Jazz have discovered is an okay bench player.

28.Erick Barkley-----------Richie Frahm>>If the Blazers were looking for a guard they should have got Frahm. He is a pure shooter and can score in bunches if needed. ( Though they eventually picked Frahm up later)

29.Mark Madsen---------Marcus Fizer>>I considered putting Jake Voskuhl here but I bet the Zen Master could have turned Fizer into a player. He just never saw minutes behind Elton Brand, and eventually drifted to be a star in the European Leagues.

This draft was awful. The second round was about as useless as male nipples. and I am depressed to see how bad it was. So many players this year were supposed to be amazing, Swift, Fizer, Darius Miles, DerMarr Johnson, Khalid El-Amin, AJ Guyton, "Scoonie" Penn, Donnell Harvey and they basically were busts. 2001 wasn't great, but it was much better than the 2000 draft.

This was the worst draft in the history of the NBA. But seriously how could you select Darius Miles over Desmond Mason or Marko Jaric. Bad call on that one.

Somebody knows who Ime is? He is going to be the next Bruce Bowen, just cleaner and a better passer

Who the hell is Jerome Moiso?

If you'd take Magloire at five just since he's a decent big man, then take Joel "the thrilla" Przybilla instead at 5. That dude can rebound, and is loyal to his team unlike Magloire.

Re-casting the 2000 draft is like rearranging the dog poop on my front lawn. Thanks for wasting 5 minutes that I'll never get back. Wake me up when you get to 2003.

This was obviously much harder to do than most drafts because of how bad it was so I applaud your efforts, can't wait to see the 2005 draft to see what the Knicks could have done.

And the Lakers are not winning the 2008 title.
